Hello, my name is Pat Goodwin with Pat Goodwin Associates. Does diversity training impact
the classroom or the workshop, that might be being held? I would encourage you to be
very open minded if you are requested to attend diversity training. It would be best in my
opinion, to have people of diversity in the workshop. And it can impact the classroom.
Now let's think about why. If you are learning certain or being educated on certain cultures.
And what's proper in that certain culture. And what's not proper in those certain cultures.
Then we are going to be more sensitive about how we conduct ourselves. How we might address
those people. They, you and you, them, when they are entering the work play. They have
been hired based on skills and the value that they bring. Their expertise, their strong
level intelligence and their experience. So as we team with people from all over the world
in a very diverse world. In a very diverse work place. It is our responsibility to be
sensitive and be professional. When we are working with people from different types of
the universe. It could be someone right from this country. But yet they have grandparents
or they have heritage from a different country. And they have continued to practice that as
an American citizen or a citizen of the country where they live. So diversity training in
a workshop can be of help by having people from different groups or different enthnicities
in the workshop. They would then be able to be comfortable hopefully, to express themselves.
About what is acceptable in their culture. What is not acceptable. We need to be very
careful and it's not professional to make snide remarks or colorful, dis-colorful jokes.
Or remarks about people from different parts of the world. It's not respectful and it's
certainly not encouraged. So if I were attending a diversity workshop. I would be very open
minded to learning and educating myself. About what is accepted, what is not accepted. And
then as I leave that diversity training workshop. I would be very cognizant and very sensitive
to making sure. That everyone in our team feels welcome and accepted. And that I'm going
to work harder as a team player. To make sure that they feel inclusive and not excluded.
