What do you guys think would be the best advice or focus for a student coming into your course
for both of you? I think, in terms of finding a placement,
the most important thing is to plan ahead and look into what you really want to do and
what you want to get out of your placement in terms of actually finding somewhere to
do it. It can take a lot of time to get an organisation that’s willing to take you
on and I think it’s definitely important to approach organisations that you’re actually
passionate about and that you’d think you would have something to offer them.
Another good thing with that would be to, before the work placement, probably to a bit
of volunteer work in different organisations so that you have a pretty good idea of what
this organisation does and this one and that so that you will be able to decide what will
be the best for you when you come to your work placement and you are prepared and like
you said, do it in advance, don’t leave it to the last minute. It’s very important.
Don’t be scared of anything new because that’s the thing that will stop you from
reaching your goal and reaching your passion and going to uni and studying as hard as you
can and going on placement which is the best learning experience that I think all of us
have ever had. So don’t be scared of anything and try everything new and go overseas for
placement because it will open up your eyes to a completely different world and make you
such a better person, I think. The most important thing when going into work
place, is organisation, is making sure that you know what they want you to wear, when
they want you to be there. Good communication between yourself and the organisation, who
you report to and who you say, you know: “I’m sorry, I can’t come in today or whatever
so that you know those sort of things before you even start.
Be prepared to accept a challenge, don’t be afraid of anything because in the end it
does pay out we can all attest to that. Although it is hard at times but it’s exciting
and at the end it’s really rewarding when you actually achieve it. It is.
