Hello everyone!
This video is going to be different from the ones I posted so far
because, for who doesn't know, I'm not only a singer but a bodypainter too.
I've been thinking about making a make-up tutorial for a while
In this case I'm going to do it for Halloween
So here I am!
I wanted to do something original,
not the usual vampire, zombie, broken doll make-up and so on,
you can watch billions of tutorial on youtube for those make ups
I wanted to do something less common then
Those who know me know how much I adore
steampunk style
and then today I'm trying to do a make up in steampunk style.
I'm going to create a slit on my face
whence some metal plates and screws are shown
everything will look a bit rusty
and seem like I am a sort of mechanical automaton.
Let's start then!
To create this make up I used:
one simple cardboard
whence I cut out some circles using a hole puncher.
Then I used a paper tissue
some foundation cream with its brush
Black aquacolor (you can replace it with black eyeshadow or coloured greasepaint,
which is very easy to find in shops with Halloween on the way)
I used a sponge and water to apply the aquacolor
then I used eyeliner brushes to draw neat lines,
Pearly or metallized eyeshadows in the shades of
bronze, gold, copper and similar
I suggest to use at least three different shades.
I applied them with eyeshadow brushes,
I flattened my eyebrow with some cosmetic mastic
if you can't get it you can replace it with a glue stick for paper.
I used some liquid latex (you can replace it with vinyl glue)
And an old/cheap brush I could spoil with latex (you can also use a stick)
Create the fake skin edges and the screws before starting the make up.
For the edges I used a paper tissue: I ripped out some strips about 1,5 cm wide.
I removed the quilted part and separated the single layers,
Then I coloured every strip with some foundation
Make sure you apply the foundation little by little
or else the strips could pull apart.
To create the screws I took a cardboard making sure it wasn't glossy
and absorbed the colour.
(you can glue some layers together to make it thicker)
then I cut out some circles with the hole puncher,
I flattened them, applied a base with black aquacolor
and once dry I coloured them with metallic eyeshadows
For this make up I used about 3 strips and 25 circles.
Lets start flattening the eyebrow with mastic
You can do it with a glue stick applying it directly from the stick as if it's a lipstick.
Once the mastic is dry and the eyebrow are well flattened
Pick up the aquacolor and apply the base for the make up.
Once you applied the black base
(stay about 1 cm away from the hairline
otherwise when you'll apply the latex it will go on your hair
and when you'll remove everything in the e)nd you'll wax it.)
I'll work with four/five shades of eyeshadow.
It depends on what colour you want your make up to be.
Mine is going to be in the shades of bronze and gold,
if you want it more silvery look for some eyeshadows of that tone.
I'll start from the darkest shade
Overlaying the lighter shades one by one.
I'll apply the eyeshadow leaving some empty spaces we'll see,
which will be the parts where we'll draw the edges of our plates
then we'll have to create some shading.
I'll start with this colour... a sort of dark brownish bronze...
I pick up a generous amount
and start putting it on here, dabbing is better than brushing
because it gives a rusty effect
I'll try to define an area in this way
With the same colour I define a circular area around the eye.
Then I create another plate at the cheekbone...
Fill the remaining spaces leaving a sort of dark line between them
I'll leave a dark gap here, here, here and here
Done with the first eyeshadow let's go on with the second one...
I'll use this one... that is a sort of dark copper...
Proceed this way overlaying the lighter eyeshadows one by one to end with the lightest.
As you can see I put on all my eyeshadows and I have this metallic effect with many tinges
Once this is done I have to freshen the edges
of the hypothetical metal plates I want to draw on my face.
So I take back my black aquacolor
and an eyeliner brush, if you don't have it
go steal it to your girlfiend, sister, aunt or mother
and draw the edges of your plates...
I draw this sort of circular plate around the eye...
one on the forehead...
the cheekbone...
which goes under the eye's one
And these random plates to fill the empty space.
WIth a dark (black/grey) eyeshadow I draw some shading hypothetically
"under" the metal plates.
Let's start putting our screws on
Since these circles are very tiny I'll apply the latex on them with a stick.
I take my liquid latex (drain the excess)
You can help yourself with tweezers...
I take the first circle...
put the latex on its back...
And I'll apply it on the edge of my plates so that it will look like a screw.
I'll start from here.
Don't worry if a little bit of latex goes out since when it dries
it turns into a neutral color which will blend with the rest of the make up.
I decided to slightly modify the design, there where three parts here before...
Now the inner part is done!
Now we'll create the open skin edges.
I take the strips I prepared at the beginning
with the paper tissue and the foundation
and shred them on one side only
which will be placed toward the inside part of the make up
I took my "battle" brush... this one...
to apply latex
I put it where the make up ends.
I proceed 2-3 cm at a time.
and stick the part I didn't shred too much.
Before adjusting the inner part of the skin
put another layer of latex
between the paper and the (real) skin
to create a smooth surface
I use the stick again since the brush ( spoilt with dry latex) would slightly rip the paper out.
As you see it's already dry here, wait until it dries all over.
Once the latex is dry
I take my foundation and its brush
and blend the colour of the paper with the colour of my skin
Fine, now the last touches.
I fix the skin where it's not torn enough...
I lift it up where it covers the inner make up too much
Here we are...
This is the final result
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial
and you found it useful.
I hope it was not a failure since it's been the first tutorial I've ever made.
