I just completed a visit to Harrison Park School in Grand Rapids. It's an awesome place.
They have a middle school, an elementary school, and a preschool and it was a wonderful opportunity
to meet with educators. I met with people from the school district and the school and
talked about their issues. I had a chance to go to a preschool classroom and read a
book about snowmen- believe it or not. One day I made a snowman that went inside to sleep.
And when I woke, I saw more snow had fallen soft and deep. Then I attended two other elementary
school classrooms. In addition, I had a chance to meet with a group of parents. That was
fabulous. The topic was about how we were increasing funding for preschool. And sitting
down with these parents and hearing about how we added dollars this last year and how
we're going to add resources this next year to eliminate the waiting list for preschools-
that was incredible. That was our big project over the last couple of years to make sure
there's more resources so kids will have the opportunity to have preschool. To hear their
stories about now their kids are in preschool, what they're learning and how excited they
are about learning, and what a bright future they have. It was wonderful to hear from the
parents. Not just from the parents but then to go read those kids a book in Ms. Sue's
classroom. That was fabulous.
