- RAMMSTEIN -
- A MASS GRAVE -
- RAMMSTEIN -
- NO ESCAPE -
I perceive RAMMSTEIN as the first 'natural' Boy band
- RAMMSTEIN -
- NO BIRD SINGS ANYMORE -
- RAMMSTEIN -
- THE SUN IS SHINING -
A mariagge of six
The main thing is: it's love in all forms and varieties
Rammstein is Rammstein!
In East Germany working was a duty we were not allowed not to work
I did an apprenticeship as a plasterer
Telephon assembly
Stoker
Toolmaker
We were prohibited to make amateur music and not work besides that
We had to have alibi-jobs
Before Rammstein was founded we all knew each other we all were friends
- DO YOU WANT, UNTIL DEATH SEPARATES YOU, BE FAITHFUL TO HER ALL THE DAYS-
- NO -
Some of us are from Schwerin and played music there while some of us were playing in Berlin
People who were in bands in East Germany knew each other inevitably
For me it was about Punk, similar to Paul Ollie played in a kind of folk violin band
Richard comes from the Crossover range
Then we were five, only Flake the keyboard player was yet missing
We had to convince him laboriously he didn't want to play with Rammstein
For him it was to dull and boring, to strict
but we needed a keyboard player and a person to complement the rest of us
Rammstein was like Goulash and we had to add some sugar to make it taste good
so we said: Come on Flake, join us. Are you in or not? He hasn't answeared - to the present day
We wanted to merge mashinery and own handmade music
We produced a Demo at home on which Till has recorded his lyrics in the evenings under a blanket
it was late and we could not disturb the neighbors
We send the tape to a competition in Berlin and won right away
Each of us had stress with a relationship at that time either just leaving or being left by a girl.
Within that misery there was a lot of exchange between us combined with making music
A primal force was prevalent at that time
Pain or Suffering is the best foundation for an artist to express himself
We all had that feeling of a new beginning, a new name and a new music
With the new Government system came new oppotunities like the possibility of getting a record deal
- YOU SMELL SO GOOD I'M WALKING AFTER YOU -
- YOU SMELL SO GOOD -
- I'LL FIND YOU -
We were thinking: what could we do different than what is 'usual'
For us the Image of western music looked like this:
There are loads of good musicians who are all trying to copy english and american bands
Only a few really independent bands
- WERE ARE YOU GOING -
- ALL BY YOURSELF -
- ARE YOU DRIFTING AWAY -
We found our style by knowing what we did not want
That is american funky music and punk, which we are not capable of
We noticed that we only played the music we could which is simple dull and monotonous
It matches us
We as a band are very open and always attempt every way
We at Rammstein have different opinions on every topic
With six people one always disapproves completely
For me there two main developments
One is that the music became more delicate, it's not that coarse and angry like on the first album
The best thing about the second album is for me that Till started to sing and is not just speaking
That big *** when you write a song and it all fits together when one harmony passes over to another and you get the feeling: Now the song is ready
That's for me the biggest experience of all
- DO YOU WANT, UNTIL DEATH SEPARATES YOU, BE FAITHFUL TO HER ALL THE DAYS-
- NO -
I have fun acting on stage, to disguise. It's probably fun for the others as well. It is part of the show
We are partially built like that and appear on stage that way It's coquetry an has nothing to with any male cult of ourselves
We just do what's there at the time
Theater is a part of it. Although a guy who plays Mephisto must have something inside him to play Mephisto
- NOW YOU ARE AFRAID AND I AM SO FAR -
- MY BLACK BLOOD SOILS YOUR DRESS -
Our lyrics essentially can't be misunderstood. They are normal romantic lyrics
Every 16 y.o. has seen so much crap on TV that we are like orphans compared to that, danger-wise
- COME INTO MY BOAT -
- A STORM RISES AND NIGHT FALLS -
- WHERE ARE YOU GOING? -
- ALL BY YOURSELF YOU ARE DRIFTING AWAY -
I don't know why everybody is clinging to those tabu-topics on one album there are two or three of them, four at most
Through the hardness of certain riffs that's what comes to mind
It's like putting a baroque frame on an abstract painting it has to fit
Hard riff - Hard lyrics Soft riff - Soft lyrics
- WHERE ARE YOU GOING - -
- SO SHORELESS; THE COLD SEA -
About our first album cover the papers were writing: They depict themselves as 'Master Race'
Complete nonsense, it's just a picture
I'd rather be spanish so we wouldn't have that stress now
Scratching the surface and interpretng things that are not there, is presumptuous
The audience understands us better than the Journalist
Unfortunately the audience does not write but that Journalist
The press repeatedly surprises us with their Ideas
My attempt regarding all this is
Making a rad statement but describe it through allegory
a bit allusive like in 60s Schlager music when it says: I stay with you tonight, but everybody knows that they are ***
What i like about the lyrics is that there are two levels they are never one-sidedly lighted
- I'M CHASING YOU -
Women want to be chased. That's normal courtship behavior Every peacock has a peacock's fan and every woodpecker is more colorful than the hen
- YOU SMELL SO GOOD; I'LL GET YOU IN A MOMENT -
I can imagine that it is impressive to admit our concerts but i don't know about my stance towards the band if i was not a part it
Quality control, that's us. What we like is good always turned out to be good
Some people say: do just that, all the time!
I earned my first money in the apprenticeship
Cassier at the bottle register
For my first money i worked in a peat-ditch for summer and got the boot after three days
Hope - without, it would be the end
Without hope one is not able to do much
For sure, every day, every morning
Belief - is gained in time
Very, very important thing
Unimportand
Respect - One should have some respect for everybody
is lost in time
is a good thing
Important
Domina - well, why not
not my case
not my topic
I know one
When we wanted to make our first video we did not know any video directors
We send our CDs to all the directors we knew from the movies
One of them was David Lynch. He wrote us in a nice letter that he was sorry for he had no time
but he liked the music. He had the CD in his car on the way to a set He listened to it accidentally until he got used to it
You don't feel the success by yourself but through other people that approach you
It's like a reflection of the people that suddenly behave differently than you know them because you are now a Star for them
I'm glad for us that we are all about 30 y.o. and cope differently with success than with 18
We play music for 16 or 17 years and in the end it can't go fast enough
The most important thing for this band is: staying together
For me there is only this constellation of Rammstein and the end would be if someone left, so it is important to stick together
