Surveyors on train:
Hi you’re sitting on a train with new vinyl seat material that
they’re trying out, would you mind giving your opinion on it. It takes about a minute
and a half.
Angela Borchardt/BART Marketing and
Research:
We’re out on the first day of our vinyl seat survey. We’re going out on
trains that have the vinyl seats installed and passing our survey and getting feedback
from our riders to see what they think about the new vinyl seats.
Narration:
PUBLIC FEEDBACK IS WHAT PROMPTED BART TO INSTALL THE NEW EASIER-TO-CLEAN SEATS,
WHICH ARE REPLACING THE FABRIC SEATS ON 100 OF BART’S 669 CARS IN A TEST PROJECT.
NOW BART IS CHECKING TO SEE, DID WE GET IT RIGHT?
Surveyors with passengers:
You’re on the new vinyl seats today, they’re brand new
and we’d appreciate your feedback? They’re lovely.
Narration: SURVEYORS ARE HOPPING TRAINS 6 DAYS A WEEK
FOR TWO WEEKS TO GET PUBLIC RESPONSE. ON THIS DAY....TWO TEAMS OF TWO ARE BUSY.
Angela Borchardt:
Because we want to hear from customers, we got a lot of customer feedback
that they want another type of material on the seats, so we came up with something that
meets all the standards we need to meet and we want to know what they think before we
commit to buying more vinyl seats we want to hear what the customers think about it.
Passenger:
I think I should probably let you know before you start rolling I am on
the board of the California Train Riders Association. What I think of the new seats, there are certainly
an improvement over the old system....obviously they will, I understand, last three times
as long as the old seat..saving money for BART for put into other badly needed services.
And they look nicer.
Surveyor:
Would you mind taking it, I can hold it for you, that’s cool, since your
hands are full.
Surveyor Patty Hoyt:
One woman yesterday in a tank top said they might get hot, but
she gave them high marks. I think showing them they actually have a
chance to make a difference, and I don’t know if I showed you before, we’ve got these
clip boards that show what the languages are and I encountered a Chinese speaker and a
Spanish speaker who originally said no I don’t know English but then I showed them this and
he took Chinese, so it worked out well.
THANK YOU. THANK YOU!
Narration: THE WOOL SETS ARE A BART TRADITION, THEY WERE
DESIGNED TO GIVE THE TRANSIT SYSTEM AN UPSCALE, AIRLINE FEEL. THE FABRIC SEATS HAVE THEIR
FANS, BUT THEY ABSORB MOISTURE AND MUST BE REMOVED TO BE DRY CLEANED.
“No good.”
Narration:
THE NEW SEATS ARE DESIGNED TO BE CLEANED WITH A WIPE DOWN OF DISINFECTANT.
“THEY LOOK GOOD. VERY GOOD.”
“You’re on a BART train that has new vinyl material on the seats.
Narration: RIDERS WILL BE SOUGHT DURING ALL PERIODS OF
THE DAY; MORNING AND EVENING RUSH HOUR AND OFF PEAK HOURS.
BART IS LOOKING FOR 900
RESPONSES BETWEEN NOW AND MAY 2ND. FEEDBACK FROM THE RESPONSES WILL BE ANALYZED
AND PROVIDED TO BART’S BOARD OF DIRECTORS, WHICH IN THE NEAR FUTURE WILL DECIDE WHETHER
TO INSTALL THE NEW SEATS ON 100 ADDITIONAL CARS.
THE DIRECTORS WANT TO HEAR WHAT THE PUBLIC HAS TO SAY.
Passenger: I appreciate you guys getting public input.
That’s a good thing.
Narration:
THE SURVEY WILL LIKELY BE REPEATED IN A FEW MONTHS WHEN THE SEATS COVERS ARE
OLDER....AND THE WEATHER IS HOTTER. LEARN MORE ABOUT ABOUT THE NEW SEATS AND BART’S
EFFORT TO REPLACE IT’S OLDEST IN THE NATION RAIL CARS, WITH A BRAND NEW FLEET OF THE FUTURE
