Hello! We've been taught numerous topics in the first fortnight of October. The first being team performance.
The topic applies to associations, organizations, groups, even Frontrunners 8 as it is a team
full of people. Team performance has 7 points which all connects to each other. The 7 points are, 1. Why am I here?
2. Who am I? 3. What are we doing? 4. Committment. 5. Who does what? 6. Achievement. 7. Why continue as a group?
After team performance, we were taught about International Sign with the aim to learn how to sign clearly.
To sign visually so that Deaf people all over the world can easily understand us. It also proves valuable when we go to
International events such as congresses or seminars, we can converse with Deaf people of different sign languages.
We've been discussing about our upcoming Film Project in the first week of November. We've brainstormed our own
ideas and we hope to make it relevant to the Deaf community with a message that will make an impact.
You'll have to wait until we finish filming it and promote via our website later.
We had a guest speaker, Ana Navas who is Deaf and is from Spain herself. She is on the board of WFDYS,
The World Federation of the Deaf Youth Section. She presented about organization and how it can be successful.
It was very interesting. She also presented about WFDYS and its roles, future camps and events along with its vision.
We've discussed about 'Association or Business' with the idea of having to choose one that suit us the best.
The topic was linked to 'Create your own Business' topic. I envisioned my business to support the Deaf Community
with providing the services they require which will be supported by the profits made.
This also was linked to 'Deaf Social Responsibility'. An example; If the Deaf community was to support a person
with their studies but do they expect the person to return to support and empower the community? or let them go?
Linking up with the topics, many Deaf people strongly believe in giving support and receiving support in return.
While a few others dont mind if the person does what they wish with their life. These were such interesting topics.
We've had one day where we focused on our project for Module 2 (December - February). I previously told you all
that I was hoping to voluntarily work in Samoa, recently this has been confirmed and I will definitely go there.
I spent my time researching about flights and preparing the things I will do over in Samoa.
At the end of that fortnight, we all drove 20 hours to Italy for the 2nd Deaf Youth Festival. Its interesting when you're
in Europe, you can cross 4-5 countries in 20hours. In Australia, we would still be in the same country, or state even.
At the festival we watched the presentations such as 'Can Deaf be Interpreters?' and the life of a Deaf Fashion Designer.
I also presented there along with a fellow Frontrunner about Frontrunners with the aim to recruit future frontrunners.
Perhaps you could join the future frontrunners?? It is absolutely thrilling here!
I also wish to inform you to go look at the Frontrunners 8 website as there are more videos on that site. We will also
upload video from the 2nd Deaf Youth Festival in Torino, Italy. Dont miss out on this! Check out the website below;
