Ireland provides development aid for Uganda. On Wednesday, June 30, Irish Foreign Affairs
Minister Micheál Martin signed a memorandum of understanding that pledged his country’s
donation of €166 million to assist in various areas of expansion in Uganda. The five-year
funding will be distributed through the charity Irish Aid to help eliminate poverty and promote
education, democracy and health. Minister Martin stated, “Irish Aid will work with
the government and the civil society to rebuild and empower communities. We will provide education,
health, water and sanitation to revitalize the economy and promote peace building and
reconciliation.” He went on to commend Uganda’s advancement toward the accomplishment of Millennium
Development Goals and such policies as the country’s decision to offer free primary
and secondary education.
Our sincere appreciation and Heaven bless Minister Martin and government of Ireland
for your generous support of Uganda. May her people be graced with ever improving health
and opportunities for abundantly fulfilling lives.
