Hello and welcome to Cupcake Addiction's Graduation Hat Cakepop Tutorial where I'll be showing
you how to make this adorable, little, graduation hat cakepops, the perfect accompaniment to
our giant graduation hat cupcake cake or also great just to have by themselves.
Tools and equipment that we will be using today:
I have some sticky tape. Now I've got some graduation scroll printables.
So we will have 2 of this available for download. We'll have "Congratulations on your graduation"
and "Happy graduation". And these are totally optional. So you can download them and they
actually come with the printable for the giant graduation hat cupcake. However, if you wish
to just put your own message or create your own scrolls, you can also definitely do that.
I've got my pre-rolled cakepop ball. Now, I've got a great recipe and tutorial for rolling
and getting your cakepop balls to this stage, ready to decorate, on my channel. I will leave
a link to that in the description box below. And mine has been chilled so mine's quite
firm. It's been rolled and it's been chilled. I've got some melted white chocolate that
I've colored yellow with a little bit of either powder color or color paste. Otherwise, you
can use yellow candy melts. Some scissors.
A knife. A little bit of yellow, either fondant or
modeling chocolate. I've got some Reese's peanut butter cups.
I've got these ones here. These are after-dinner mints or [entertain] mints that we buy here
in Australia. So they're basically just a little square of chocolate with peppermint
inside. If you don't have access to those, there are actually a lot of chocolate brands
that will give you nice -- Lindt is one of them -- nice, big, flat, square pieces of
chocolate. And you can chop those up and use those really nice, chocolate squares as well.
I've got a couple of lollipop sticks. I've got a sour strap and that's just going
to give you 2 options for the tassels if you don't like working with fondant.
And I've got a couple of toothpicks. Let's get started.
Te first thing you want to do is take your knife. And there's always a little tiny bit
of a flat bottom. So make sure the flat bottom is off to the side. And we're going to cut
just the top of the graduation cakepop ball off. So you should have something that looks
a little bit like that. Don't worry if it's not particularly neat and you can discard
that one. Now, we're going to take our lollipop stick
and we're going to just dip it in a little bit of those yellow candy melts or yellow
chocolate. And insert it into the bottom of our cakepop ball. Now I'm going to let that
sit so that seal sets nicely. While we're letting that one sit, you can pop it in the
refrigerator if you like. But while we're letting that one sit, I'm going to show you
how to [pay] your tassels 2 ways. So the first way that you've got is your sour
strap. Now with the sour strap, this is where your scissors come in. You just cut it in
half. And you (Inaudible 02:44) about 2/3 I found. You could also use roll ups for this.
Roll ups are fantastic if you like to roll out toffee and use that, you can. So now that
I've cut it in half and I got the main 2/3 of it, I'm just going to cut up some tassels.
So just using your scissors, it's as simple as just cutting up to make some nice tassel-y
type shapes. If you love this tutorial, do make sure that
you check out our Giant Graduation Hat Cupcake Tutorial. It's on our channel My Cupcake Addiction.
And if you'd love to it the Subscribe button while you're over there. We upload several
times a week and there's lot of great stuff to check out and new stuff coming out every
other day. Alright, so you should have something that
looks like that. Now, I like to just take the corners sort of off the top. And using
a toothpick, I'm going to put a little bit of that melted chocolate in. Now I wasn't
quite sure how to hold this so I'm just going to use one of my peanut butter cup wrappers
because it's foil. You can also use (Inaudible 03:52) or something like that. But I'm just
going to take a little bit of that melted chocolate. I'm going to just wipe it on to
the inside there. I'm going to close it up. Because it's quite a firm sour strap, it's
going to want to open again so I'm just going to take my Reese's peanut butter cup wrapper
and I'm just going to wrap it around. That's just going to hold it together for us while
that chocolate dries and set. So we can pop that off to the side. That's one way that
you can make your tassels. Now the other way is, of course, with fondant.
And the tassels are great if you're to go with -- I've got a sprinkles options over
here or if you're colors happen to be red or if you're going to use a different colored
sour strap. But we seem to only have the red ones here on Australia, red or rainbow. So
if you're going to do a different colored graduation hat, you may need fondant to match
your tassels into the actual base ball of your graduation hat.
So I'm just going to roll my fondant out into a little bit of a sausage. And taking my knife,
I just want to cut away a little bit, and just roll that out. Lovely.
So taking your knife again, I'm just going to trim off that end. I think it's a little
bit long. And we're going to flatten out just a little bit so just give it a little bit
of a press just to flatten it out a little bit so you've got a nice base to cut from.
And really carefully, just cut in a couple of tassels. Do be careful not to drag your
knife down too quickly because dragging your knife through fondant will actually cause
the fondant to tear. So you can see there, I've sort of just making the cut and lifting
the knife back out. Here we go. So those are going to be our fondant tassels.
So there you've got your 2 options for tassels depending on what you like to work with.
Now, that one there should be pretty well set and ready to go -- our cakepop ball. So
I'm just going to give that melted chocolate a stir to make sure it's nice and fluid right
before we dip. It does tend to set quite quickly. We're going to take the cakepop ball and just
dip it in. So we're going to meet up with that chocolate seal so that our yellow chocolate
completely covers that chocolate seal. And as I pull it up, I'm just going to tap off
any excess. Do make sure that you keep the cakepop turning
as you're tapping so you got a really nice, even coat. Alright, so our cakepop is looking
pretty good, sort of a bit of a headless cakepop here. So what you want to do is roll that
in while it's still nice and wet, take your Reese's peanut butter cup. And make sure that
you've got your best side positioned forward, for both the cakepop ball and the Reese's
peanut butter cup. And pop it on. That's just going to stick to that chocolate and we're
going to wait for that to completely set before we go any further.
Okay, so we're back and I'm convinced that my cakepop is completely set and my Reese's
peanut butter cup is not going anywhere. So I'm going to attach my graduation scroll.
And as I mentioned, this is a [title] optional extra but I just think it gives a little bit
of a personalized touch. I'm going to sit it on the front where I'm happy as the front
of my cakepop. Turn it over and take a little bit of sticky tape, and just as easy as sticky-taping
it on the back there. Now we're ready just to put the final touches
on our hat and tassels. So we want to take one of those nice little...either your square
chocolate or the square [entertain mint] which is what I'm using. And if you're in Australia,
I just pick mine up at (Inaudible 07:19). So they are about 2 dollars a packet. You
get about 12 in a packet. So just a little tiny toothpick, not too much here, because
you really don't want that chocolate to seep out the sides. You want this to be one sort
of a seamless color. And I like to position my hat kind of an angle so I've got one of
the points going forward. And just sitting it on top. Give that a couple of seconds just
to get a little bit [tucky]. And once you're happy that it's not going to slide off, we
can attach our tassels. So I'm pretty sure that's looking pretty good at the moment.
So because I've got the yellow ball, I'm going to do yellow tassels. And look, I know this
look like they would make fantastic faces. And if you want to put little faces on your
graduation hats to resemble the person who's graduating, absolutely go for it. Depending
on what age the graduation's for, the face can look a little bit young. But it totally
depends on who you're making for and what their likes would be.
So now I'm just going to rest that yellow fondant in that little tiny dab of yellow
melted chocolate. And I'm actually just going to hold that in position for about 5 or so
seconds. Well basically, there you have your great
little graduation cakepops. You can see them here in a range of colors and design ideas.
And look, this is just the basic idea so you feel free to make this your own any way you
see fit. I hope you've enjoyed watching this tutorial
as much as I've enjoyed making it for you. And as always, thank you very much for watching.
