My name is Nadia Haif. I am a Production Management Assistant for BBC Sports.
I work on Match of the Day, nationally, to Sports Personality of the Year.
My main duties are to book guests, look after them when they're here, sort their travel,
push buttons, look after budgets and make sure
the overall production runs smoothly.
My initial placement was with BBC Sports News, down in London
at Television Centre, and I would go out with the reporters and go to press conferences.
England had a game at Wembley when I was on work experience, so it was good to
get to go to good stuff like that.
It was just so important for me, because it was my foot in the door. It was pretty much my only chance
to make an impact. So when I was there
I just totally went out of my way to make lots of
different contacts, and once the placement was over I made the effort to keep in touch with them all.
The contacts I made from my work experience placement have changed my life.
They are my bosses of today.
The main reason I choose to come to Sunderland University, not just because I'm local, but
the facilities were amazing. Even my bosses now say that there is no university like Sunderland,
that can match the facilities that we have here.
My course, the equipment we had, the teaching we had, it was all industry standard.
We had a lot of guest lecturers from newspapers coming in to teach.
I don't think many other universities could offer that standard of teaching to be honest.
I think it's so important to do placements, with your degree as well, during your studies
because it gives you a sense of the real world,
what it really is like.
The best bit of advice that I give students is to try and get as much work experience as possible,
because what's going to make a difference between you getting a job is the people you meet,
and the impression you make on them.
My placement has been absolutely instrumental in what I'm doing today. The experience, the contacts,
and just being there in the industry; it's the only reason I think I'm in the job I am today.
