Hello viewers, and welcome to
transatlantic tea time, with me, your host, Joe Hills
as you know in this program, we will
explore commonalities between our countries. The United states of america
and the united Kingdom of Europe
In this episode, were gunna explore the concept of
tea itself, you know, were gunna have a transatlantic tea time
I should probably explain one of those three things
I should explain time, I should explain atlantic
or trans-atlantic-ness
or I should explain tea, And I have chosen tea.
Were gunna start in the middle, maybe we'll work our way out later. Now, the concept of tea
Originated in the Latin alphabet, because they needed
a twentyeth letter in order to spell the word twenty.
See, its got "T" right in there. Now, this "T" is known as a Sans-Serrif "T", because it doesnt
have any little nobs or little bits down here, on either
side or even down here. that would be, uh, what are known as
serifs, which they make the "T" more distinct visually
printed page, but uh, people dont normally
use them when the're hand writing. Now, there's, uh,
another concept know as High T and
the way that you know what High T is, is it is slightly more elevated
than the other "T", and, its
a little bit fancier. We got fancier stuff in it. so, you know
this is the sort of "T" you would want at the end of a long day. Lets say that
your a laborer, or a miner or what not. Now this "T" is
usually made of the finest things that you have. Now, in
my case, its lapiz lazuli. cause the're is no meat blocks in the game
But a traditional High "T" might contain, you know, shepherd pie.
or meat blocks, also known as bouillon cubes.
And this "T" has gotten a little bit too hot, So you shouldn't
put it in your mouth, it is now on fire. do not eat
that. Ok, so we've explored the concept of tea.
We've explored High "T". It is now time to explore
Ok, thank you for drowning me ender pearl. I am now in the Ocean.
Wow, ok, I need to practice keeping my accent
In check, for clarity, for my international audience.
I apologize, I seem to be slipping a bit. This is low "T"
As you can see, it is near the sea level. and
it's made of more basic materials. Now, I cant
use milk buckets to construct blocks in this game, but normally
a low "T" would consist of a "T"
and some milk and possibly some cookies that are known in britain
as biscuits. Which I should have prepared earlier
in my minecraft inventory, but did not. Now there's a lot
of dispute over whether you should put the "T"
In your cup first or if you should put your milk
in the cup first, but if you are a member of the underclass
or middle class, it has been seemed as unseemly
to add milk first, but you do it any way, to infuriate the upper
classes. which is a delightful act of rebellion.
Now speaking of acts of rebellion. Another group besides
americans and the british, who have used.
the "T" is the Italians. Back when they were known as
the Romans, the Italians would make big
wooden "T"s and then they would strap people to them for punishment
And this, uh, symbol was later adopted, by the Church
of England to recognize the sacrifice of
one such rebel. And I think that's about all the time.
We have today. Thyme, there's a good subject for us to
explore next time, on Trans-atlantic Tea time, with
Joe Hills, who's accent will hopefully stabilize over the course
of this series. I was going to say
