my name is Mark Bowness Chief Inspector head of roads policing
operation Allwood is a police run operation aimed
at highlights in the four main causes of death or serious injury at road collisions.
Those are excess speed.
driving whilst under the influence of drink or drugs
not wearing a seat belt or distraction
being using a mobile phone while driving.
All four contributing factors will be focused throughout the four weeks but there is a specialist
subject each week. The first week is drink-drive
What we are doing there is having static sites across West Yorkshire
where officers are out doing road checks, routine checks
stopping drivers on the way home from work to stop or stopping drivers on the way home from the
pub or from friends house. I think it's on the up with young people
I think there very difficult to prise young people away from their phones at the moment
with different social accounts, phones, text
when they stop at traffic lights it seems like it's at opportunity for everybody to get their phones out
and catch up with the rest of the world, when it's not you should be concentrating on your driving all times
So you don't have to be doing anything wrong to be stopped by the police
So just make sure it's not you.
This operation will run for 4 weeks which will see officers from the roads policing unit
patrolling the streets, highways, and motorway networks of West Yorkshire
looking for people committing these offences, educating them
and also using enforcement to deal with them.
