Postal Teresinense No 1 – Teresina Postcard No 1 Composer: Beetholven Cunha
David Stephensen, tenor, Doug de Vries, guitar
On the Corisco Plateau
I glimpsed the sky closing in.
Thunder comes rolling
And the raindrops go falling.
The rain is abundant
From January to the month of May.
After that, the flowers,
And in the sky, no more a flash of lightning.
The aromas of the flowers that open—
They do not themselves know the perfumes that they have.
Dusky flower, mulata or cabocla,
The taste of your mouth does not know from where it comes.
Does it come from burití? Or will it be from cashew?
Can it be cupuaçú? Carnaúba or babaçú?
