Hi, I'm Kelli. I'm an aesthetician and make up artist at Ulta Salon and Cosmetics and
I'm going to give you some tips and some things that you can do to lighten blemishes. A lot
of times what happens is we're all guilty of it, we tend to pick at our blackheads or
our blemishes that are on the skin and then we go out in the sun without sun protection.
It's going to lead to scarring which causes discolorations on the skin. So a couple things
that you can do to lighten those up is you can get a chemical peel. You can either get
an at home peel, which are usually a lower grade alpha-hydroxy, usually glycolic or lactic.
And those you can do once a week, usually, for a period of time, or you can go to an
aesthetician and get that done, get a much higher grade of peel done and do that for
a series of usually about six weeks is what you need to do and that can help to lighten
a lot of discolorations. Another thing that you can do is you can get a lightening gel
and target it to those specific scar areas. You can get one with hydroquinone, which is
a lightening ingredient or you can get one that's hydroquinone-free and that contains
natural botanicals, azelaic acid and licorice root which are going to help to lighten and
brighten the skin. So those are some things that you can do to help to lighten blemish
discolorations.
