JACOB: Hi, I'm Jacob...
PHIL: ...and I'm Phil Fill!
JACOB: Together we are Jacob and Phil Fill.
JACOB: Well, first of all I have a solo project. So does Phil, and these solo projects are bands. They're huge, it's like 6, 7 people and lots of gear which is nice. But for playing shows in that everybody goes home with more than 20 Euros it's not the best idea.
Phil was playing in my live band as a drummer 'cause Phil besides being a great singer-songwriter is a fantastic drummer, and so we thought maybe we just should combine our projects.
At first we thought we'd just do it the both of us, just he on drums and me on keys and we're both going to sing.
Then we noticed maybe okay, that's not enough, so we got another guy who's not being interviewed 'cause he's very pretty actually.
INTERVIEWER: He'll take all the attention!
JACOB: Yes, he's just like a shining star! Well anyway, then we just tried it out. The style of our songwriting is in some ways similar, between pop and soul, so somehow it just fit and then we played, and we liked it and people liked it.
PHIL: Yeah, we have a lot of influences from soul music like Stevie Wonder I would say, also hip-hop, Beastie Boys, some rock bands, some Indie bands we like. I think it's a mixture of many things, and electronic music also. But in the context of the trio we try to keep it more like acoustic, not too electronic because we come from the electronic background with the solo projects. We tried to strip it down to a more acoustic sound.
JACOB: The place is called... I think ''Dicke''... PHIL: It's ''Dicke Lilli''... JACOB: ...''gutes Kind''... PHIL: ''Gutes Kind'', yeah, ''Dicke Lilli, gutes Kind''.
JACOB: ''Dicke Lilli'', well, ''***'' means fat, Lilli is just a name, and ''gutes Kind'' means good child. It's like a very new cafe, it's more a cafe than a bar, and the funny thing before the show is... well, actually they only opened I think two months before we did the show, and I think three or four times before that they had just like two people with acoustic guitars and they just had two microphones in front of them, that was it. And they thought we were just going to do about the same, and then we came in with the Stinger G2, and we just blasted the place.
PHIL: ...and the gear, it was...
PHIL: After we built up all the gear it was already full!
JACOB: It was okay!
PHIL: Easy! I mean, input, output, satellite, to the mixing desk, like a normal... if you really don't know what input and output and satellite means then you're a little lost, but we knew it. I remember the cases, no, not the cases... the soft shells, soft covers, and that was...
JACOB: Yeah, I was happy that there were no cases actually, 'cause we had to carry them upstairs, so it was really great! So light...
JACOB: Yes, definitely! The thing is just like, if you're playing a venue... like in small venues often there is no backstage, so where are you supposed to put the cases? PHIL: Out there in the kitchen...
JACOB: Yeah, in this case, but seriously there are places where you have just nothing to put the stuff. Actually it's nice to have these soft covers because they're rollable or you just put them in the car. It's easy, it's light so that's actually good.
JACOB: Just think back what we talked about. I think that somehow the guys wanted to do us a favor, just like give us the bigger PA which in most cases is... well, it's better to have a bigger one for a small room than the other way round, a too small PA for too big a room. But like in this case we don't have any space at all, so wow! But the sound is really nice, it was really, really good but it was, hey okay, we have to get this stuff in here somehow.
JACOB: Well, we'll be definitely recording some new songs at some time when we find some time in our very tight schedules, yeah, do some recordings, and then some time later in the year play a tour again, promote the album and get crazy famous.
JACOB: Thank you LD Systems for the great equipment, for the support! Check our music on...
PHIL: Facebook.com/JacobandPhilFill!
JACOB: Over and out, bye bye!
