Hello Catholic School Families. My name is Anthony Cook. I am the superintendent of schools
at the Diocese of Rochester. I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and welcome
you to the 2013-2014 school year. Prior to starting my new role as superintendent, I
served as principal Seton Catholic School. As a servant to Catholic education I am devoted
to fulfilling the mission of the Diocese of Rochester. This mission is three-fold. First
part of our mission is to preserve and teach doctrines of the Catholic faith. We embrace
this opportunity in all that we do. The second part of our mission is to foster academic
excellence. In August 2013 the Department of Catholic Schools published a document entitled
Shared Expectations for excellence in development. This document and the accompanying video is
available online. This document changes help improve student learning. Specifically it
focuses on increasing instructional time and providing effective feedback to our students.
We will be expecting more from our students and teachers this year than ever before and
we will continue to meet with Catholic High School Principals to ensure not only that
our students are prepared for high school and beyond but also to maintain our rich tradition
of academic excellence. The third part of our permission is to develop service-oriented
and self-disciplined individuals. New this school year the Dioceses is introducing the
Olweus Bullying Prevention Program which will be utilized in all of our schools. This program
is inclusive and proactive in helping create a nurturing environment for all of our students.
I'd like to personally Thank You for your commitment to Catholic Education and know
that educating our children is a privilege and responsibility. May God bless your families.
