I'm Dr. Colleen Skavinsky and we're here today in Omand Creek park in Winnipeg.
This is where I bring my dog Maisey on lunch hours. We get to play ball, we get to have a little run and we get to enjoy the snow.
She loves to play in the snow, she loves to play with the other dogs, so we want to make sure that we stay safe and happy as we're outside in the wintertime.
We do have to be careful about the safety with thin ice.
Just because a rabbit can run across a frozen pond or a frozen river, doesn't mean the ice is going to be thick enough to protect your dog or even yourself should you be running behind your dog.
The problem with dogs is they'll see a rabbit or they'll see someone else running across the river that may be a lot lighter than them
but when the dog goes to chase the bunny, they are going to fall through the ice.
You want to stay safe, you want to make sure your playtime is fun, and everybody has a great winter.
