Hi, my name is Lita, I'm a photographer
and...I really like english tea, very much
and...I don't like jokes
I bought a german camera on Ebay for 30 Euros
that came in a beautiful pack, a leather bag, with the lenses and the camera
and I had it at home for 8 months
without using it because...it was like "how do I use this?"
and...one day a friend told me it was very easy
insert a camera film
to play with the diaphragm and the exposition
and it took me about 3 months to take the film's 36 photos
and then arrived the moment to go to the store and pick up the film
and it was like a really magic sensation
and then I became addicted to it
I don't know why we choose photography
but I think... that what we are interested in is to tell stories
we are Groundpress...
and we don't like to be lied to
and we like licor cafe...the home made one.
Sometimes an image can simplify things, right?...
it can, either, be like in a metaphoric way or...
...through an image that is just the moment, this motivates us a lot, to capture the instant.
The power that an image can have is...
I mean, an image can be used for advertising, for selling things, for... images are used for everything
and it can also be used to inform people
it can also be used as a claim for someone to read a pice of news, to draw attention to a particular case.
There is some diversity within us, in the kind of...
for example now I'm working on a project that, let's say, it is some kind of analysis of society.
how society is nowadays, from my point of view
how...
the use of the fear, the repression and so on.
and...Angel was working on an immigration topic...
...Carla was working in a village...a neighborhood...
...in a neighborhood that was gradually becoming depopulated
I mean, at the end we do a diversity of things, but...
...with the common point of view that we talk about people, about the people.
About people and the crisis' consequences.
I have always liked the artistic and creative world, and I found that photography, in a way, met my needs.
I started receiving some analog toy cameras
and I started playing.
This was how I began.
and from then on, I think, analog photography is very addictive
and it is how... that when you have a camera film you feel the need of knowing the end result of the following one.
and from that point onwards, it is addictive, a little bit.
Hi, my name is Blanca Viñas I'm an analog photographer
I love to not have control of anything, and I hate to have to control everything.
Analog photography allows you to...
...to create different points of view that not even I know how a photo has come out, it has...
...because they are many different points of view that are mixed, and create surprising effects.
It's difficult to orientate oneself and find a reference point.
It's not easy
The current situation forces us to focus on that
we are in a crisis, and that's how it is.
It is not only an economical crisis, but also social one
Is an intellectual, economical, political crisis...also of values...
a crisis...it is a fraud...
it is everything, it is a global crisis, in all areas
It's what Angel said before, we do things...
let's say, more global like demonstrations or evictions or escraches we cover that part
...and then we deepen more, within these same areas, in a concrete case or area or person.
This idea of mixing photography with poetry it is something we had already done unconsciously, some years ago, because I had a blog...
...and I would give her some of my photos to combine with her writings.
and then we talked about doing it in a more a deliberately way.
basically the process was that... I would choose...the photos but...
...but, not that that or that one, but I would give her one and she would write...
...I would go through all my folders, my work of the past 3 years and I was choosing them
The exhibit is called fugacious matter because I know that if I had to do it again today...
I would have made a different selection and she would have chosen another verb, another word another way of interpreting it.
It was a film that I shot under the water and some water leaked inside the camera
the salt water damaged the film and the end results were so curious
like mildews, or stains or dots...
and I thought, if sea water made this, what would happen with other substances?
and that was the starting point, and I thought... let's experiment some more
vinegar... bleach, which is very destructive... alcohol, with which the images totally disappeared..
coke, beer, wine...I don't know...
Our goal is not to become rich with this
this is mainly, I think, a commitment task, overall of social commitment...
...social commitment...
but obviously we would like...to live of it, to be able to focus 100% on journalism... on photojournalism.
And...I spent a lot of time charging 50 (Euros) for taking a lot of portraits.
and it really wasn't worth I did it for pleasure, because I was discovering things that I enjoyed.
and... last year I started "surviving" from this
and I started making photo books for actors and this is how my passion for portraits began
A band from London got to my photos and they asked me to make the cover for their album
and I did not have a clue of how to make album covers, in fact I made the first one with Paint and some other program, but with very limited resources
and from there on when someone trust in you, although you are not a professional,
other proposals begin to arrive to you.
well the perfection doesn't exist, you won't find it, I can't deliver it to you
and they know they are playing this game with me.
I mean...I don't offer perfect results.
Internet and social networks allow us being able to offer this information without any kind of censure,
free, independent and direct.
I have many analog cameras, but I mostly use 3 of them...
the reflex, that is the tipical camera, which is heavy and it takes me a long time to finish a film because...
...because it is so heavy that I don't always carry it with me.
I carry with me two other cameras that they are point-and-shot, one with a black&white film, and the other one with a color film
these 2 I always carry with me
the black&white photos I process myself, I have a laboratory right here
and with these I don't look to make the perfect copy in black & white but...
to play with the chemicals substances, using my fingers
leaving finger tips, I love the imperfections on them.
and for the color photos...
and for color photos...
...I'm more perfectionist in the process, I want a good copy
but always with my cameras limitations in mind, that they are not so good, not very professional cameras.
Experimenting for me is totally impulsive and...
it is also the way to create effects that using another technics would be impossible to achieve
I can't repeat a certain photo because the same product doesn't affect it in the same way...
because of the different circumstances, because of the different time in contact with the film...
or because the film sensibility wouldn't be the same, or because of the light conditions are not the sameÉ
and I think this is the way to obtain something different, and not being able to repeat it is also the interesting part.
And this is the line that we would like to follow
being free, being independent, and to show the information as it is.
From now on, anything is possible.
And take advantage of the beauty of sharing
You say it very well!...it's wonderful!...
