Did you ever go to a bar, look at this funny glass and wonder what in God's name it's used
for? My name is Micah and I'm going to talk to you today about the snifter. The snifter
is a bar glass, shaped as so, that is used for several specific things. It's usually
going to be a cognac, a cordial, some kind of liqueur. Not a straight liquor, per say,
as a like a bourbon or whiskey, but more of a sipping liqueur. Such as a fine scotch,
a cordial, an amaretto, a Grand Manier, or a great cognac. Now the great thing about
a snifter is it's design specifically to bring out the best in your liqueur. As you can see
it's got a large bowl that's used for swirling. You hold a snifter as so with your palm on
the bottom of the glass. Why you do this is because it heats up the liquid inside. The
heat from the palm of your hand releases some of the aromas and the flavors that are inside
delicate liqueurs such as cognac as such. Now I'm going to pour a little amaretto, Di
Saronno, which is an almond liqueur that is sipped. When pouring yourself a snifter, how
to judge if you poured the right amount, is if you hold it on it's side, it should about
come to the lip right there. And you drink said liqueurs like so. So I'm going to hold
this, have the heat from my hand releasing some of the flavors and the aromas. And then
you can also swirl which is the great part of the design which also helps to decant the
liqueur and bring out some of the flavors. So, my name is Micah this has been, what is
a snifter? Cheers!!
