I'm Eric Blad and I'm Rick Perry. And we've been together for 11 years. We met on the
internet. Like a lot of people nowadays. One of the biggest things that we love to do are
home improvement projects. We literally work together. It's really funny how we compliment
each other. We go to the movies every Tuesday night. We go snow tubing. We go tubing down
the Cannon River. Our neighbors around here are in their 70s and they are so accepting.
They loved us moving here and moving into the neighborhood - they completely welcomed
us with open arms. I see that as what part of family is; family is how you define it.
And I define it as my significant other, my wish to be spouse, unfortunately not yet.
Really, I define it as who you surround yourself with. Ultimately, I can't make decisions for
him, he can't make decisions for me because we're not together as a spouse. It's a shame.
In this day and age you would think that everyone would be accepting. Whenever they use the
word together, the answer is always "Yes, 11 years." I think that is going to help people
understand that we are here. And you know our relationship is the same as their relationship
or their parents' relationship. Marriage to me is truly loving the person who I want to
be with the rest of my life, and that person is Rick.
