an electronic learning portfolio is a way for students to capture their
learning over the course of their Ithaca College experience
often what you leave with is
scraps of paper and scraps of video and facebook posts
and twitter posts that are scattered all over to the winds
students will be able to put elements of their learning,
reflective essays, projects they've done for classes, resumes... to talk about
their community service to talk about their student organizations to talk about
the internships they've had, the volunteer experiences, the work experiences
and this gives students an opportunity to put it all in one place
and to think about how all these things connect
it gives the college the opportunity to see if what we're doing is working
to help students make sense of how all of these pieces fit together
with the in-class and out-of-class experience
anyone who has talked with students knows that they already in an informal way make
connections among their different experiences so it allows us to
a little bit more formally
evaluate are we doing what we say we're doing and are we giving students
the kinds of experiences that we want to be giving students
in looking at moving toward the final decision
there were four criteria that the committee looked at
one was does it fulfill our electronic learning portfolio needs
the second criterion was assessment
is this product going to be able to fulfill our assessment needs and a third important feature for us as well
was in the ability to integrate taskstream with
other software and other ITS services on campus
but also a very good and responsive
support team and training team
which is gonna be obviously of critical importance as we move to
implement this on a large scale
once the original project team had identified the top three vendors
then ITS was brought in to meet with them to discuss how they met industry best practices
We also want to make sure that we know how they're protecting our data
how their ultimately protecting your data
and what their uptime is...
who can we access if there's a problem and how fast will they
take care of issues.
and taskstream really rose to the top they seem to be the easiest to use
they allow a lot of flexibility
which is really important because we have students who have a wide variety
of things they are going to be using the eportfolio for, from film and
music, to video, to writings, and photos of them working with clients and patients
in PT and OT, to photos of sculptures
after meeting with tasktream ITS was very confident that they would provide
a solution that met all of our technical
functional requirements that they would ultimately deliver to you
the faculty and students a great product and great support
taskstream has a very impressive and robust
and on from all accounts that have been able to find
a very good and responsive support team
