Ada: In our school students can learn Maths in English. Today class 1d had such a lesson.
Ada:How was it? Maciek: It was great. We had a lesson with
an Australian student, Lily, and she taught us about coordinates.
Ada: Did you like it? Was it difficult? Maciek: It was easy for me because I'm good
at Maths. We repeated words after Lily and then we did some exercises.
Lily: We have positive and negative coordinates. So, graph has four regions. They're called the quadrants.
Lily: I'll write that.
Lily: OK. So each of these are called quadrants.
Lily: So can you please repeat: quadrants. Class: Quadrants.
Lily: Quadrants. Class: Quadrants.
Lily: So this is the graph. In the first quadrant
'x' and 'y' are both positives. So a coordinate is in the first quadrant. Both positive.
Lily: Second quadrant. One positive, one negative. 'y' is negative.
Lily: Third quadrant. Both are negatives. Negative 'x', negative 'y'.
Lily: Fourth quadrant. The 'x' is negative and the 'y' is positive.
Lily: OK. So, reading from the graph, what's the coordinates for A?
Students: -3,-3
Lily: Both negative. How about B?
Students: -3,1 Lily: Yeah. Negative 3, positive 1.
Lily: C? Students: 0,3
Lily: D?
Students: 3,1 Lily: 3,1
Lily: E?
Students: 3,-3
Lily: Yeah.
