[G. Glaros] Hi, I’m Gina Glaros, your host for the February 3rd edition of IUPUI’s
The Spot. The 2010 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure
is a little over 2 months away. Join the IUPUI campus as one of the top supporters for this
event. Form a group with other IUPUI student or friends and family and register before
it’s too late. The race is on campus on Saturday, April 17th. For registration information
you can visit komenindy.org. For the 3rd year in a row, the IUPUI Communication
Department will host the Curtis Memorial Oratorical Contest on Saturday, February 6th at 6pm.
Support IUPUI students as they showcase their commitment to peaceful resolution of conflict
through scripted oration. [L. Anderson] The CMOC is short for the Curtis
Memorial Oratorical Contest. It is an opportunity for IUPUI undergrads to showcase their commitment
to peaceful conflict resolutions through scripted oration. It is sponsored by the IUPUI Department
of Communication Studies in the School of Liberal Arts.
Topics are focused on finding a diplomatic or peaceful solution in areas torn by religious,
political, and societal strife. Anyone who’s associated with IUPUI is invited to the event.
The finals will be February 6th at 6 pm in Campus Center room 450A. There will be a reception
preceding the finals at 4:45 in room 450B of the Campus Center.
[G. Glaros] Are you driven to make a difference in your community? Several IUPUI organizations
have teamed up to put on a one-day leadership conference for both undergraduate and graduate
students. Project Leadership will be held on Friday, February 19th from 9 to 4 pm in
the Campus Center, room 450. Visit Campus and Community Life in the Campus Center to
register now. How can you support children in your community
and enjoy a night on the town? Attend the “Stylin’ for Success” Fashion Show put
on by the Indiana Members Credit Union. The event will be held on February 27th at 3 pm.
Nikki Thompson with the Indiana Members Credit Union gave us the details.
[N. Thompson] “Styling for Success” is a fashion show presented by Indiana Members
Credit Union at Conseco Fieldhouse on February 27th from 3 to 6:30 pm, and basically it is
a fashion show, a dinner, and then the tickets also include a ticket to the Pacers game versus
Chicago that evening. Proceeds from the event will go to purchase
uniforms for 510 underprivileged children in the Indianapolis area. We have partnered
with IPS school 43, and we’re hoping to, if we sell out the event, we’re hoping to
have enough uniforms for all of them for next school year.
Everyone is welcomed to attend the event. You can purchase tickets or donate to the
cause by going to our website, imcu.org, and there are just a couple tickets left, but
we are always accepting donations for the cause.
[G. Glaros] Save lives by giving blood. The IUPUI Honors Club will be holding a Blood
Drive on Tuesday, February 9th from 10am to 3pm in the Campus Center, room 405. Make sure
you sign up on donorpoint. Contact Magon Works for more information.
Need extra cash during the school year? The IUPUI America Reads America Counts tutoring
program is hiring for the spring 2010 semester. If you qualify for Federal Work-Study and
are interested in tutoring children in reading or math, apply today at csl.iupui.edu/cws
before February 10th. After losses to IPFW last weekend, the IUPUI
men’s and women’s basketball teams are ready for a win. Saturday, February 6th, they
will travel to Western Illinois. The women’s team will play at 4:30 pm followed by the
men’s team at 7. Good luck, and go Jags. You can track their progress at iupuijags.com.
That’s it for The Spot this week. Be sure to tune in next Wednesday for the latest campus
news and student activities at jagtv.iupui.edu. I’m Gina Glaros, and thanks for Spotting
us!
