[Narrator] Welcome to Student Computing and to UNC Charlotte.
Access to technology, services, and support will be
an important part of your academic life
at UNC Charlotte.
Most of you probably came here today loaded
with digital devices like cell phones, digital cameras,
laptops and mp3 players, so you're a
pretty well connected group.
You'll want to stay connected at UNC Charlotte.
That's where Student Computing comes in.
[piano music]
Student Computing is responsible for ensuring
that students have access to computer equipment,
software, and technical assistance needed to support
your general academic efforts at UNC Charlotte.
Student Computing provides five 24/7 open computer labs
in Barnard, along with a Student Computing Help Center.
In your SOAR bags, you'll find a copy of
our annual magazine, Computing @ UNC Charlotte.
This highlights the most important ways that
Student Computing can assist your college experience
and it's a great introduction to the services we offer,
but even more important, it has our website url
right on the front.
The magazine will become dated, but our website will
always provide you with the latest up to date information.
Hopefully, you've already set up your
Niner Net password and logged into 49er Express.
49er Express gives you access to University email, Banner
Self Service, Moodle and Blackboard Vista,
your grades, class registration, financial aid, the course catalogue,
and events, clubs, and organizations.
49er Express is a gateway to many online services at UNC Charlotte.

Your Niner Net account logs you into 49er Express.
That's your username and the password you create
in Password Manager.
49er Express holds important personal
and academic information that you'll wanna keep secure.
Protect your privacy and don't share your
password with anyone.
>>Hey everyone!
Guess what I did today.
Changed my password.
It's, it's a really good password.
Anyone wanna try to guess it?
Anyone?
I mean it's a really good one.
A really good password.
>>Students have to change their Niner Net passwords
every 180 days.
It's a security measure.
If you don't change your password on time,
it's gonna expire.
Our senior TA Eli, she likes to change her password
the first day she gets the notification, which is great.
Then she comes in and tries to get us to guess it.
That completely misses the point.
>>David, bet you can't guess what my password is.
>>Nope. Probably not.
>>Ashley G. What about you? What's my password?
Come on, you guys. Someone has to wanna guess it.
What if there's a prize?
The first TA who can guess my password
if you can guess it gets the rest of the day off, with pay.
>>SeniorTArocks1234! ?
>>The problem with this game is Eli uses the same password every semester.
The only difference is she adds a number
on because you can't use the same password more than once.
So for example, last semester it was SeniorTArocks123!
and the semester before that it was SeniorTArocks12!
>>She cheated.
>>You use the same password every semester.
>>After a TA guesses her password, she spends the rest of the day moping.
That and, uh, trying to find a new password.
>>[sighs]
>>At least 8 characters, a letter, a symbol,
and a capital letter.
[sighs]
