As we wrap up the 2010 Parliamentary year it is good to reflect.
There is no doubt that we gained the confidence of the Australian people throughout the year.
We made solid gains to the point where we overwhelmingly won the first preference vote
at the August 21 election. Sure, the final numbers didn’t allow us
to win a majority in the House of Representatives but what it showed was a team committed and
dedicated to serving the people of Australia in a way that would have ensured that our
borders were protected, that the waste of the Green Loans Scheme was stopped, that the
Pink Batts Scheme was stopped, that the Building Education Revolution would be used in a proper
way rather than having a school hall at every school whether they needed it or not.
What we’ve also done – apart from holding Labor to account – is develop good, sound,
practical policies for the future, like our Direct Action Plan in relation to climate
change. They’re the sort of things that we believe
we can fine-tune and hone even further in 2011 to convince our fellow Australians that
we should be given the privilege of Government at the next election because the waste must
stop, good sound economic management has to come to the forefront yet again and we need
direct action plans for the future of our nation.
The Coalition can and will deliver all that after the next election and I look forward
to working with you during 2011 to make sure that happens.
