The college understands that from time-to-time employees may need to use the college's
computer equipment for personal reasons. That's why we've included a topic entitled "Personal
Use of College Resources" in the new Information Protection Standards -- which are now published
on the college website.
The rules regarding usage of the college's internet connection, Email systems, electronic
file storage areas and other resources all have a common theme -- that is, limited personal
use is perfectly acceptable as long as it does not
Impact your capability to do your job or the capability of other to do their jobs
Cause slowdowns, performance degradations or other harm to the college's systems
Violate any laws
Expose the college to any sort of harm or embarrassment.
So don't abuse this privilege.
Don't use your college email address to conduct your business on the side.
Don't forward the "chain" emails or virus hoaxes that ask you to forward the email
to everyone you know.
Don't visit the *** sites
Don't illegally download copyrighted materials
Don't store you entire personal music, video, or movie collection on the colleges' electronic
file storage areas.
Above all -- use common sense. I always tell people to use the "Gramma rule" -- that
is, if your Gramma knew what you were doing, would she approve? If not, don't do it.
