Male: The Better Memory Minute with Teri Barr. [Music]
Teri Barr: It is the time of year for ghosts and goblins and rats. It seems the animal
often gets lumped in with all the other scary things at Halloween, but you may be surprised
to know the rat's brain is actually pretty similar to yours. The evidence is in a new
study, which shows people and rats may think alike when trying to fix a mistake. Brown
University -- [0:00:30]
scientists measured the brainwaves of humans and rodents and found when either group made
an error in a time-related task, both then used the same part of the brain to try and
fix it. Researchers say since we process our thoughts the same way as a rat, we shouldn't
be afraid to improve our memory so we don't make the same mistakes. I'm Teri Barr.
