This video shows how to import files into EViews 7. The same process for any recent
copy of EViews. And I'll also show how to manually input data. By far the easiest way
to put your data into EViews, if you have it as a spreadsheet file, is just to click
and drag. And it will do that automatically for you. Some of the older versions have trouble
doing this. So there are other options. To import the file without clicking and dragging,
you would go "new work file". You need to tell it what frequency, in this case my file
is dated quarterly. So I put in, just putting in the years is enough, it will pick up that
it's quarter 1 to quarter 4. Once you have the work file opened, you can then go to "Import",
"Import from file", and it will open up a box where you can go to where ever the file
is and just click ok and it will open it up much the same way as clicking and dragging.
But older versions like it better to import it properly than to click and drag. The third
way to import you data is to go to the spreadsheet file. And select the data. copy and paste,
and that gets the same data in there. That's also a very quick way to do it. Sometimes
you're going to have data you'll need to manually input. To do that. File, new work file. how
ever your data is set up. There's also unstructured and balanced panels. In this case we'll just
do some annual data. The year 2000 through the year 2013. And once you have the work
file you go to Quick, empty group, and it's like a spreadsheet. So you can just input
your data in and push enter and it goes to the next cell. Just like Excel would do. Once
you have the data input how ever it is set up, go to Name. Just Example, and there it
is. It's in the work file. So that is how to manually input data.
