Hey guys welcome to Photoshop Pro Help, today I'm going to be teaching you this really cool spotlight effect
as you can see it works really well in images
now this picture here is of a watch tower and you can see the lovely stream of light which is the spotlight itself
now your really not to confines with what pictures this works with
now if I flip over to this one here, now it works equally as well with this image as the other one but you will notice the colour isn't right, it should be dark blue
and have some darker shades in it which I'm just showing you that if this does go wrong and you don't get the colour you want then its easy to tweak
and change it back again, so lets jump into things, we have our main image here
and before we go any further I will say this, if you have a night time image then there is no point in following these first few steps
because I'm going to make the daytime image into a night time image and if you have a night time image then there is no point in making
night time when its already night time, that would be a bit strange and stupid
so first things first is skip if you have a night time image and if you have a day time image just keep rolling with the video
so we are going to go and press "ctrl" + "J" on our keyboard to duplicate our picture
then we are going to go up to "layer" and go to "new adjustment layer" and then we are going to go to "hue and saturation"
and then we are going to click "ok" from here we are going to click "colourize" and we are going to change the colour to a light blue, so around about there
and that will be around about "180" to "220" for the "hue" and the "lightness" is going to be about "-40" to "-70"
you will need to make the decision because each picture is totally different, so we will go for something around there and then hide that
then we are going to go to the second from bottom layer, our "duplication layer"
and then we are going to go to the "burn tool" which is on the left hand side
it will be underneath the "dodge tool" if you can't find it
and we are going to put the "exposure" to "60%" at the top
and we are going to put the "range" to "mid tones" and you want a middle sized brush depending on the size of your image
then all we are going to do is darken our image just around a few different places
so what this does is it emphasizes it being night time and takes the contrast of it being blue away
because as you know it shouldn't be totally blue there should be different shades and everything
so we are just going round very lightly, we don't want to make it to dark
then from here what we are going to do is select the top layer
and then make a "new blank layer" on the bottom right hand side that button is
and then we are going to go to the "elliptical marquee tool", hold and click if you can't find it, it will be underneath the "rectangle marquee tool"
and we are just going to go and put the circle out, now if your covering a item or a person you will have to make the circle big enough to cover them
now don't worry to much you will have to change the setting depending on the size of your circle from here on
just be aware of that, so what we are going to do from here is go to our "paint bucket tool" on the left hand side and we want the default colour as white,
colour that in, then go to "filter" then "blur" and then "Gaussian blur" and we want the "radius" to be around about "25" pixels
but depending on the size of your circle, if its bigger you want to notch the "radius" up and if the circle is smaller then you want to notch the "radius" a little bit lower than "25"
so once you have done that we are going to click "ok" and then we are going to change the "blending option" to "overlay"
and then we are just going to press "ctrl" + "D" to deselect
now from here we need to make the stream of light so go and make a new blank layer on the bottom right hand side, then zoom in like that,
depending on the size of your circle you might have to zoom in
and what we are going to do is go to the "pen tool" and click the bottom of the circle and all we are going to do is go round the circle,
I'm just doing this very roughly, your going to have a lot more time than me
you can even click the top of the circle and bend the line round and you will get a better fit by doing that
and then we are going to click where the light is shining from and then click where the light ends, so here,
don't worry to much about the overlap as we can easily sort that out, then right click and press "make selection" and "feather" it by "1" pixel then click "ok"
and then we are just going to do what we did to the circle so we are going to take the "paint bucket tool"
then click to fill it with white, then go to "filter" and the Gaussian blur" will be at the top
now you can just press this and it will automatically do this for you
and then we are going to change the "blending option" to "overlay" again and then press "ctrl" + "D" to deselect
and then we are going to zoom in, sorry I just changed the blending option, so zoom in and then go to the "eraser tool"
and we are just going to take out just the bits we don't need, I'm not going to go over it because your going to have a lot more time on your hands
and there we go, we have the spotlight now if you want the spotlight to be brighter all you have to do is duplicate them two layers, so "ctrl" + "J"
and there you go its a lot brighter and you can do that for both of them layers and they will be a lot brighter depending on how bright you want it
now I'm just going to delete that layer because I don't need it that bright
now if you can see where the torch is coming from we might want to emphasize on how bright it is
so if we make a "new blank layer" bottom right hand side, then go to the "paint brush" and default colour as "white"
then zoom in on where it is, I'm going to make the paint brush a little bit smaller, and we are just going to click once
and then make the brush bigger by "1" pixel and then click again and then make the brush bigger by "1" pixel and click again
and then we are just going to bring the "opacity" down to about "62%" and then zoom out and there we have it, its all finished
so please play around with this and see what other effects you can create and please comment, rate and subscribe and check out the website and I'll see you next time guys
Bye for now.
