I have faith but I’m not religious.
I love chicken paprika, as well.
I grew up here, my family is here and my friends too.
Whenever I get stressed out, I go up to the Citadella and can sit there for hours.
I started learning Chinese.
I’m small, but I love tall men.
My bed linen is made out of lace.
Tueanh Nguyen [Halas Lace]
Hungary just like Vietnam was a socialist country. I mean Vietnam still is.
My father is a physicist and back then he had the opportunity to do his PhD here.
I was six when we came here.
I noticed that men like to compliment Asian women.
They say, “what a unique face you’ve got” and that “you’re beautiful”.
I don’t mind. I think every woman likes to receive compliments.
I’m studying at the Finance Department of Corvinus University.
I know that everyone wants to go to either east or west, but I’d like to stay here in Hungary.
My mother was teaching history of economic theory at a Vietnamese university
and because she didn’t speak Hungarian at the level that she could teach here,
she started dealing with hand embroidered tablecloths and embroidered lace.
My mother said that she was invited to represent Vietnam
at the 12th International Lace Festival.
Lace has existed in Vietnam since 700 years ago.
While theirs is an everyday object, ours only has an ornamental function.
Here, people frame them and put them up on the wall.
This size is ready in about two days.
For us, this means about 200-250 working hours.
You can tell if it’s Vietnamese lace from the traditional patterns.
What you can see here for example: rose, sunflowers.
“Halas lace represents great value… we have to create commerce from it.
We have to make propaganda for it.
To love it.
o love it as something that’s ours. [László Spolarich]
I think there will always be demand for nice things.
If you make something by hand,
then there is – as my mother says – something warm about it as well.
There’s soul in it.
- As far as I know, there are only 10 people doing these here.
- Yes.
- We have 340 villages where they make these products.
- How much is it? - 2,000 forints.
Ours is around 300,000 forints.
I was lucky to see in person how they sew or prepare this lace. It’s really beautiful.
They do it with a thin needle and thread, and it’s so much work. This is a Hungarian speciality.
They designed a dress for me and added Halas lace to it.
I’ve not seen the whole dress completed, so I’m really, really curious.
- Hi Tueanh. - Hi.
Nice dress. I like it, too.
- The women brought the lace up here and sewed it onto the dress.
That’s how careful one should be with it.
If I had to sum it up in one sentence, then I’d say that
in the east, the “us” is bigger than the “me”, and here “me” is bigger.
The three and five-puttony Tokaj sweet white wine is absolutely delicious.
Goulash soup,
I use Vegeta (spice mixture),
the Szépasszony-völgy,
Eger.
My family is here, so are my friends. I grew up here in Budapest.
I’ll be happy if I don’t have disappointments in the future,
and I can truly manage to find my place here.
