now it has been said that good public policy always
overrides politics but let us not forget
that it took courage, it took tenacity
and, as the governor likes to say, it took
relentless positive action to bring us all here this morning. We had a ton of
people support this
from the Small Business Association of Michigan to the hospital association, the
physicians, all the different groups and particularly by all the health care
professions
We have people in our family that needed help
that needed health care. 470,000
people that were having to rely on ER for their basic health care.
we were paying for all those ER visits
In terms of all ten million, and this is a chance to do it more efficiently,
thoughtfully, we shouldn't get bogged down by who's writing the checks but really look
at
here's an opportunity for savings, to run a better system for health care
these people are going to have access to primary care and preventive services
What you're going to help
them to have better health, which is going to see to it
that we have less wasteful
money spent. This bill I believe
will become a national model for health care reform. I'm
pleased to have worked on it with so many others
because of the promise it brings our people.
It's a tremendous opportunity for Michigan this is the first day for
Healthy Michigan. I believe this will provide responsibility accountability
and opportunity
for all those who it affects. It protects taxpayers,
it protects small businesses, it protects those who generate the jobs in Michigan
Healthy Michigan is something we should be proud of
because it is about cost quality and access. We're gonna provide access to
hundreds of thousands of Michiganders
that only had access through an ER.
There we go, we're done [clapping]
Now we got to this step, let's get to the next step, let's go! We're reinventing Michigan!
So we should be proud, so thank you so much, thanks for everyone's hard work
