This month I'm working on the biggest painting I've ever done
which maybe to some people doesn't seem that big
but to me it's fairly daunting. It's 1m x 2.5m
My biggest painting before that was about a quarter of that size.
Here's the painting I'm working on for the Wallace Awards.
As you can see, it's quite large.
It is actually too large for me to fit into my studio out the back.
So the studio at the moment has become a temporary storage space for all my paintings.
The other paintings which are significantly smaller than the one I'm working on at the moment
are all going to be housed in here. I worked on all of them in here.
The subjects of my paintings are a mixture of fact and fiction
where myth comes in to conflict and comparison with empirical science.
Sometimes with comic and others with catastrophic results.
Currently I have 6 or 7 paintings on the go.
This helps me allow the paintings to start in an open-ended way
and sort of interact with one another.
Sometimes this takes the form of a character from one painting appearing in another,
or landscape elements appearing in more than one painting.
Once I've completed this work I'll move on to creating a portfolio of the semi-complete works
to take around to prospective galleries.
But in order to do this, I need to get back to work.
