Now often times in music you won't see under the score it won't say 3 inches or 6 inches
or 9 inches it would usually just say the Italian dynamic piano, forte. So you are really
going to want to defined what height you are going to use for each one of those dynamics
so often times mezzo piano is going to be used for a 3 inch level. Which is about right
there. Mezzo forte would be doubt 6 inches off the drumhead. Forte is going to be about
9 inches. Fortissimo about 12 and we would get into this a little bit more later but
you are going to notice once you get into the 12 inch range you are going to want to
use a little bit more on in the stroke rather then down here is very wrist oriented. The
same with 15. A lot of groups also use a 1 1/2 dynamic which is very low, barely lifting
the stick or mallet and often times for the very low dynamic ranges.
