Holes appear in US airplanes. On Friday, April 1, after a hole was discovered in the cabin
roof of a Southwest Airlines aircraft following take-off from Phoenix, Arizona, the pilots
were able to make a safe emergency landing with no serious injuries to any of the 118
passengers and crew onboard. An initial investigation on Sunday by the US National Transportation
Safety Board revealed that three other similar aircraft also had small sub-surface cracks,
which may have been the cause of the damage to the first plane. While assuring that the
airlines has been compliant with all federal and manufacturer inspection requirements,
Southwest officials cancelled hundreds of flights over the weekend as a further precaution
to carry out more extensive tests.
We are relieved to know of the safety of all passengers and crew, and appreciate the responsible
actions of Southwest Airlines and the US National Transportation Safety Board to ensure the
most secure flights possible for air travelers
