Comrades suspected of being government agents are murdered too
All those suspected were tied up then tortured to death.
When you entered the Movement as they say,
it's forbidden to torture, steal, and kill without an offense.
However, during the hysteria in 1984,
many comrades and ordinary civilians were executed
from mere suspicion and without basis.
It was in 1986,
when I considered to lay down arms or return to the fold of the law.
With the assistance of Solo brothers,
they were brothers whose parents became victims too
of the communists
because their mom was killed after suspected of being a government asset.
They organized a small group
which became anti-communist.
They became instrumental for us to surrender to 49th IB.
For us who returned to mainstream, the Movement retorted
that all those surrendered are only those with pending offenses.
I'm not saying that we made offenses,
maybe because everyone has a right and deserves due process
which is just in a democracy.
However, our return to the fold of the law
was the only way I see for us to have a normal life,
which we never experienced with the communists.
We stayed in the Movement for 6 years,
the Movement promised to change our lives,
then to give us our own parcel of land,
to help our family.
However,
that one is painful,
because ever since we joined the communists
we lost our source of livelihood.
Our father died
in the belief that we'll have a better life in the Movement.
However the reform they promised
will be the very reason
for our whole family to plunge in extreme poverty.
And the promise that we'll have our own land,
by the grace of God,
we got our own land
but just large enough to be my father's grave.
And after we surrendered,
I started to reform myself completely
and cooperated with the government.
I thought that was enough
to prove to the government that we're ready to cooperate.
But that cooperation incited
the shooting of my husband.
The pain and hardships were more than enough.
It's almost I can't bear it anymore.
But, I still believe God will not give
trials that you can't possibly endure,
that God will not give me that I can't bear.
When my husband was killed, he was shot inside our home.
He was shot 4 times.
And also hit was my son who was 5 years old at that time.
And I was 8-month pregnant for my youngest.
It was as if the world stop turning,
I thought
what we have nothing else to turn to.
In NPA, if you made a mistake, you're killed.
If you turn to the government and cooperate
you'll also be killed by your former comrades.
I can confirm, it's true, it's in the NPA policy.
It's said, whoever commits an infraction
in the rules set by Communist Party of the Philippines
will be immediately executed.
We accepted that.
And after returning to the fold of the law, we are not blaming anyone,
not even the government,
that they used us.
Because we did it voluntarily,
just to prove how was our lives living inside the Movement.
Those who were suspected to be deep-penetration agents of the government
were executed.
Those that had different ideas were also killed.
The NPA has the luxury of perpetuating *** without being condemned,
of killing without any fear of being exposed;
for nobody within the organization dares to stand up and protest.
The culture of violence did not stop.
It really did not end,
even as party members today claim remorse over its killing fields.
And because the people
easily forget these atrocities -
the communists' ability to betray its own people,
the NPA culture of terrorism continues
and the victims today still await for justice.
