When I first got diagnosed, obviously my first concern was
my daughter, and I just knew that I needed to do everything possible
just to stay alive for my daughter and every day
I just had to try make myself feel better about the situation
not see myself as
a victim. Obviously I had bad days, you can't pick up your own daughter like she's
crying,
and you have to quickly get to a chair and be like
ok, come and sit on me because I can't physically lift you up.
They might not need you to pick them up but you need, I need cuddles!
You feel alone and isolated quite
a lot
To me, I think Macmillan have helped me massively,
just knowing that they are there and you can phone them up whenever you want
makes you feel safe. Fundraising is important to me
for various different reasons. It took my mind off things and helped me
through it,
but also just, you know, without the funds
how are they going to continue to help people. I was going through a really bad time
when I started
to lose my hair. My friend who wanted to support me
by shaving her head off, we decided to
incorporate that and make a bit money through that as well.
She phoned me up and she was like right, now it's time we're gonna do it.
To have
someone do such a massive thing for you, it was just,
I can't really explain it, I can't explain how I felt
but, it was such a massive thing,
it was such a massive thing and I'll hold it
for ever.
I chose a night in because it was a really fun thing to do,
so I asked a few friends, I put it out there on Facebook about what I wanted to do.
Asked for raffle prizes auctioned bits and pieces.
People were phoning me up and texting me their bids and stuff
and we just made a load of money!
I think fundraising is a massive deal and it's very worthwhile to Macmillan.
Not only are they there at the other end of the phone but
they support you through the whole thing, from beginning to end, and it doesn't
stop there, they continue to support you. I mean I'm better now and I can still
get support from them.
