Regina Biddings-Muro:
do any individuals or specific classes
stand out in your memory from Purdue Calumet
as having dramatically shaped your future?
Marisa Henderson: Can I choose more than one?
Regina Biddings-Muro: Of course!
We hoped you would.
Marisa Henderson: Well, I guess the first class that really
struck me was my English 108 course
with Dr. Karen Bishop-Morris.
I got there, and the longest paper that I have
ever written was probably about five pages.
And she told us that we had a project that we
had to accumulate throughout the whole entire
semester and then present it at the end,
and the paper had to amount to be about twenty pages.
And I kind of had a nervous attack at the moment,
not completely, but I was quite scared.
But then we started the process
of researching, and actually finding a variety of
different sources, not just five,
I realized that in order to actually know
a subject fully and have a real understanding
from every angle, you actually have to dedicate
that amount of time and that amount of work.
It was scary at first, but I’m really glad I took it.
And aside from that, I also really liked
Dr. Lu’s French 365 Conversation
which really forced you to actually speak with
other students in French,
try to use all the grammatical conjugations
correctly, and not be afraid to actually
show your skill and not just keep your French
clammed up inside. Those are the two classes
that really struck me.
