Hi! My name is David H. Lawrence XVII, and I'm a voiceover teacher here in Los Angeles,
as well as an actor and voice talent, and I teach a series of classes live here in LA
called VO2GoGo.com - that's the name of the website, the classes are VO2GoGo classes.
And basically what we do each week is we teach a different category of voice work, as well
as some classes being different means of managing your voice over career...different aspects
of managing a successful voiceover practice. And one of the classes we teach in town here,
is called The Art of Self-Direction and we've also put it on video and audio that you can
get at vo2gogo.com/classes. I don't know of anybody that's teaching this class, and it's
almost essential for being successful, because so much has changed about our industry in
the last five to ten years. It used to be that there were dozens and dozens of live
casting directors for voiceover here in town, and now you can count the ones that matter
on one hand. It's really been an attrition rate for them. And mostly that's due to the
Internet. it's not just sites like Voice123 and Voices.com that are sort of pairing up
voice talent with buyers of voice work, but it's also your agent. My agent sends me auditions
all the time...she still has a microphone and a booth in her office, but she loves the
fact that I don't take up that space and I can do the stuff from home. However, what
that does is, it leaves the voice talent with no one to bounce adjustments off of - there's
no engineer or producer to say, "Hey, could you give that a little bit more shine...maybe
take that phrasing a little bit differently..." You have to know these things yourself, and
that's what this class teaches. I think it's an essential for being successful. You have
to know how to listen to that first take, and figure out how to change that so that
it aligns with that perfect read that's in your head. How to go for archetypes - we talk
about all these things in the class - how to go for archetypes. How to adjust your energy.
How to really pay attention to making the room in which you work as conducive to doing
good auditions as is humanly possible. So what we're trying to do is kind of replace
what was normally done in a studio or at your agent's office, with a WhisperRoom and a producer,
so that you can do it right there at home. It's called The Art of Self Direction, we
teach it here in Los Angeles, and we offer it for you for download at VO2GoGo.com/classes.
You can pick up either the video or the audio version of it, and it's right there waiting
for you. We actually have two classes available at any one point in time, so you can certainly
go check out which classes are available - this one very well might be. The Art of Self Direction
at VO2GoGo.com - I'm David H. Lawrence XVII, thank you so much for listening.
