Our Mission: Klis Fortress.
Defending Split for 2000 years.
With help from our friends,
and a few tough questions,
we would learn more about Klis Fortress,
and other Croatian sites,
used for filming Season 4 of the Game of Thrones.
Filming inside the 1700 year-old retirement palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian,
included locations outside the city museum,
and underneath the arched ceiling of the palace basement.
But, it would be a rocky ridge overlooking the city of Split,
that would provide a dramatic backdrop, for the game of thrones.
The Klis Fortress, dominating over the Split skyline,
was under attack for 20 years in the wars between the Venetians and the Ottomans.
Established under the ancient Illyrians,
developed by the Romans, strengthened by the Venetians, contested by the Ottomans,
and now, a set for the Game of Thrones.
Our search for filming locations continues, and leads to a 13th century watermill.
Season 4 filming occurred here in 2013.
A restaurant on site, features delicious, traditional Dalmatian cuisine, and friendly Croatian hospitality.
A great day. A great experience.
