Hello, you all, Ada Chan here. This week we are going to talk about
diversion. What is diversion? Diversion is exactly what the name suggests,
diversion. You get your case diverted out from the trial track, which means
you are not going to go to trial. At the end of the diversion, if you
successfully complete whatever conditions that you may have, your case will
get dismissed. That's one good thing about diversion, because you are not
going to trial. Some people say, "I want a trial. I want to prove my
innocence. "Well, if you are under diversion, it is a little bit more under
your control. You will know exactly what you need to do in order to get the
case dismissed.
A lot of times, if you do not have any drug issue, community service is one
of the options. That means you have to do a certain number of community
services, and you get your case dismissed. If you do have a drug issue, you
will be offered drug treatment which is also good for you. That means, if
you successfully complete drug treatment, you can get your case dismissed
that way. When you hear that you are offered diversion options, it's
actually great news because it means that at the end of the diversion
period you can get your case dismissed.
Thanks for watching.
