Hi, my name is Jill Weiss and I'm going to tell you a little bit about how to be a pitcher.
A pitcher is the person on the team that kind of, they're the ones that are trying to produce
those outs. So they've got to be able to hit their spots, different pitches, change-ups,
trying to get the person to pop up or striking them out, things like that. They've got to
be able to field the ball. They've got to be able to throw the ball to bases and they've
also got to be the pitcher. They've got to be able to hit their spots. As a pitcher,
the first thing you want to learn is you want to learn the windmill. The ball goes arm speed,
that's going to make the ball faster. Also, your legs. Your legs and pushing off that
mound, using that power, that front leg to kind of push off that mound is going to be
what produces speed and power to get it all the way to the plate to your catcher. Once
you learn that windmill and you use your legs, start with your legs, you can start focusing
on inside, outside, change-up, fastball high, fastball low, rise, curve ball, all those
different pitches. Suggestion is to see a pitching coach that they're going to kind
of show you all the mechanics of being a pitcher and talking about the snap, talking about
release point, what's going to, how you can hit those spots. But, as a pitcher, practice,
practice, practice. That's the main thing is how you're going to get better and doing
live pitching, live hitting, seeing somebody actually stand at home plate, things like
that. So that's all those little tips on how to be a pitcher.
