Song title: Amorgiano nero (water from Amorgos island) Artists: Katsimiha brothers
It's a traditional greek song and we don't know who the lyrics writer and the composer are. The rythm is tradtional Cycladic.
The violin is one of the most important musical instruments in Amorgos island.
The song version we are hearing now is in the 1994 album by Katsimiha brothers called "tis agapis macheria".
Other versions have slightly different instrumentation and a different tempo.
"Perama" is a kind of caique boat with two masts. From the 18th century fishermen used to travel up to the Black Sea with them.
The choir is from Yiannis Tsimoulis' institute in Peristeri city.
The word "aman" is turkish and means "mercy". It's also used as an exclamation by both Greeks and Turks. In arabic "aman" means "peace".
There are variations to the lyrics, depening on the cover.
For many people the wish "may the dawn finds you well", contains also a subconscious desire to see again the person who we say goodbye to.
Other instruments that belong to the violin family are the viola and the cello or else the violoncello.
Here are some other variations of the chorus.
