[Music] >>JUSTIN KEATS: My name is Justin Keats and
I am the guest artist-in-residence this semester at CMU. I'm one of the first guest residents
ever to stay for a whole semester, which means I've had the privilege of working with the
students here all semester. I've had my own classes and then rehearsals. Usually what
happens with a guest artist, they come in for one week and they rehearse for that one
week with the students and create a whole new piece. I've been able to create three
pieces this semester because of the fact that I've been here so long and that's been really
valuable, not only for me as a choreographer, but for the students as well so they can feel
confident going into the concert. >>RACHEL KRUEGER: My name is Rachel Krueger
and I am with the Colorado Mesa University dance concert that is coming up on the 26th
and 27th. What they should expect is a really great show.We have a lot of variety as far
as dance styles go. We have contemporary, we have ballet, we have tap. There's just
a lot of different styles. We have, we're lucky to have a few different guest choreographers
this semester that are coming to us from all over the nation.
>>KEATS: I was really impressed with the students, and they really inspired me to create pieces
based off of them. And a lot of it has been collaborative in the way that, you know, I've
asked them for their opinions and we've played off each other. What they can and cannot do,
their personalities, all of it has come into play and it's really been an interesting way
of creating these new works. >>KRUEGER: We've been working on this concert
since school started back in January. Dance requires a lot of rehearsal time, a lot of
late nights, a lot of weekends. There's also the technical side of the show, which is a
whole other major. There's also the costumes, sometimes they get made, sometimes they get
ordered in. More often than not they have to be tailored for the person. So there's
so many different things happening it takes so many different people to put on a show
like this and we're always really excited to do it, but it's such a huge-- it's such
a huge production. >>KEATS: I'm a little nervous for adding microphones
to dancers in my tap piece. They are not only tapping, because that's never enough. I'm
having them sing, rap and act as well, and, you know, that's a big challenge for a lot
of people, especially if you've never sang before.
>>KREUGER: You can always call the box office. The box office is open, I believe from 10-2
Monday through Thursday. Or you can come early to the show and pick up a ticket the evening
of the show that you want to see. They usually open up at 6:30 to get the ticket for 7:30
for the show. A lot of times the seats fill up fast, so if you're wanting to get a good
seat you need to get there early or get your tickets in advance.
>>KEATS: I would say that if you've never seen dance before, or if you have seen dance
before, this is the show that has something for everyone and anyone can enjoy it.
