How long before milk comes in during pregnancy?
You’ll be able to breastfeed the baby the day it is born assuming there are no complications.
What type of complications?
If you give birth to the baby early, you might not be able to breastfeed because your ***
aren’t fully developed. That’s primarily a problem for a first baby, not a second.
I heard that what you make the first week isn’t milk.
Technically, it is called colostrum. However, it is still nutrition for the baby.
And all the immune system benefits of milk are in that first week.
Well, your baby will pick up your immunity through the milk and the colostrums. But your
baby will carry your antibodies for the first six months anyway.
I think I’m already making milk, because I leak.
You’ll leak more after you have the baby. Some women wear nursing pads all the time
because they leak milk whenever they hear a baby cry.
But I’m not making milk yet.
You might leak a little colostrum now, especially if you are doing a breast exam. And it could
leak while you are in labor.
It isn’t any worse than the poop I might leak while in labor. All I care about is being
able to breastfeed.
Your full milk should come in within a week of having the baby, though probably three
or four days later.
Is colostrum enough for a newborn?
It has been enough for newborns for hundreds of thousands of years, so yes. And if you
have problems, remember that formula is just fine.
It’s inferior to formula.
Millions if not billions of people since WW2 have been raised off of formula and grown
up just fine.
That depends on your opinion of the Baby Boomer generation.
