Hi! I'm Travis Connelly. I am a state certified fire-fighter on behalf of Expert Village.
This is basic fire safety. Whether cooking inside or outside, you should always keep
in mind your surroundings in fire safety. When cooking outside or inside, you should
always remember things that are placed close to the oven or grill or open flames. That
you are using anything such as paper towels, newspapers, bags or any other materials can
usually catch fire if they get too close. You should also keep in mind that when you
are done cooking not to cut off the source of heat. If you leave it on by mistake and
put something on it and it eventually catches fire. The number one cause of fire is to put
a pan of grease on a heated oven and when it reaches a certain temperature, it will
ignite causing other things around it to catch fire. The important thing is not to panic.
You should cover it to smother the fire. Don't throw water on it. That is one of the biggest
mistakes on a grease fire. Another fact while cooking is once you put the food on, don't
forget that you put it on.
