Our company name is Canada's Diaper Ladies. I'm Penny Gibson, one of the founders of the
company. I started it with my mother, Noreen Gibson. It's a cloth diaper paper company we decided after
looking for my daughter for diapers for her that we wanted to start our own cloth diaper
business. We wanted everything to be affordable, easy to use, and in one kit. We got the idea to
start the business after my daughter was born. I had when I was pregnant I decided I would
use cloth diapers and looked around at quite a few places, couldn't find anything, looked
on line, everything was really expensive.
Eight months of joking around about starting a a diaper
business because I didn't really want to go back to my former job after my maternity
leave was up
and it just
went from joking into actually starting the business. I applied for the Young Entrepreneurs
Program
So basically it's if you're under, I think if you're under twenty nine or under thirty, or you
know one of the partners
is then you can apply for a $4,000 grant so you have to spend $8,000
and if you meet their criteria, like your business plan,
and everything else, then you get the $4,000 grant.
We actually haven't spent the grant money yet. We've decided that it's going to go towards
new diaper covers, we're going to have nylon pants custom made for our diapers
so once we get everything kinda
worked out with the factory in China and we get everything finalized then the money will
go towards that
After we received the information from the Small Business Finance Centre
there was really, it was just kind of the Young Entrepreneurs that stood out at that time
now as the business progresses I do remember seeing a few other in there that I think will
probably be a fit that we might end up taking advantage of. I think it is important to be able
to find these grants and other funding because a lot of times the banks just don't
they don't come through like you might think that they would
