Alright, let me tell you something else about humor in public speaking. It really needs
to appear to be spontaneous. And what spontaneous is, is it kind of happens in the moment. Now,
if you're good at thinking on your feet, this will be really easy for you. Maybe a funny
idea pops into your head right in the moment. Or, possibly you've practiced something funny,
that you're going to interject at this particular point in your outline or this particular part
of your speech. That's great! The one thing that you really, really, really, really don't
want to do is rehearse, over rehearse the humor. Because what happens then is it starts
to sound a bit wrote. It's not spontaneous, it's like I've memorized my speech. In fact,
it's like I've memorized my joke! Ha, isn't that funny. No, it's not funny. Don't be too
familiar with your humor or it will fall flat. Keep it spontaneous.
