The First Lady: Hi, everyone.
As you may know, one of my top priorities as First
Lady is ensuring that our veterans and their
families are getting the recognition, care, and
support that they need and deserve.
And that includes the security of reliable,
affordable health care.
Now the last thing our veterans families need
is the stress of worrying that one accident
or illness could mean losing everything
you've worked so hard for.
But thanks to the Affordable Care Act,
that weight is being lifted.
This new law means that you can get preventative
care, things like flu shots, mammograms,
vaccines for your kids, without additional
cost or co-pays.
It means you can't be denied coverage because
you have a preexisting condition like diabetes
or cancer or asthma.
And it means that young people can stay
on their parents' insurance until they're 26 years old.
Now a lot of veterans already qualify for health
coverage through VA programs.
And if you already have health insurance, or
health care from Tricare or the VA,
you don't have to do a thing.
Your VA health care does not change,
and there are no new fees.
But if you don't have insurance, now there's a
simple way for you and your family to get the
benefits and coverage you need.
You just have to visit healthcare.gov, where you
can compare plans side by side and pick the
one that works best for you and your family.
You can also call 1-800-318-2596 to get help
over the phone.
The deadline for signing up is March 31,
so talk to your friends, your family, your neighbors.
Send them to the website right now, and stay on
them until they sign up, because all Americans
deserve the security of knowing that you'll have
health care when you need it, especially families
like yours, who have already given
so much to this country.
Thank you all for your service, and god bless.
