Hi everyone, Todays video is all about the different ways to create puzzle nails
I'm going to start with a stamping design first
Then for those of you who do not have a stamping nail art set yet
I'll also be showing you a couple of different methods using sticky tapes and striping tapes to do some freehand Puzzle Designs as well
If you like these designs, please give this video a thumbs up, let me know which one's your faorite and what colors will you be using to recreate your puzzle nails
As always start with base coat to protect your nails
For the Stamping design, I decided to do a set of Cool toned colors. You can use any colors you like
I used a dark blue for the index and pinky finger, green on the middle finger and a shiny silver colors on the ring finger as the accent nail
Using Xl image plate A available at Meliney.com apply special stamping polish over the design
Scrape off excess polish using the scraper and transfer the image using the stamper
Check that the image is complete then aim and roll it onto the nail
In between stamps, you can clean the stamper, scraper and image plate with nail polish remover
then repeat steps for the remaining nails
To Clean up, Soak a q-tip in polish remover and wipe away the unwanted prints
Next grab a Detail brush and randomly fill in some of the puzzle pieces
for the accent nail, I used both the dark blue and green color from my other fingers to achieve a color matching design set
For the other fingers, I used only the shiny silver color to fill in the puzzle pieces
this will not only match the ring finger color, it will also brings more focus to the accent nail since it has more colors showing
I also added some white polish to give the design more contrast
Spread the different colors out and make sure the same colors don't touch each other
When you're done apply top coat for a lasting finish
My interpretation of this design is that the silver pieces are the missing pieces and the solid colors are the completed ones
Now on to the freehand designs. I'm going to show you the easiest one first and it is the 2 x 2 puzzle piece set
The baby version
Apply base color and let it dry
To get the super straight lines, we're going to use the help of some magic tape
So pull out a piece of tape from the dispenser and use your scissors to cut that in half
we're going to use the corner of the straight sides to section our nails
Place one half on the top left and the other half on the bottom right side of the nail
make sure the edges and stuck down flat so the nail polish don't slip through
Now apply your second color onto the exposed sections of the nail
carefully peel off the tape and you'll end up with this 2 x 2 square set
Next grab the biggest dotting tool and add a dot to extend the color onto the other piece
So 2 dot in the silver section using the red polish, and 2 dot in red section using the silver polish
and there you have it. Easy peasy!
Moving on to the Next level of difficulty, a 3 x 3 puzzle set
We're going to cut the tape into strips around 1/3 sized of the nail
we need 2 of those
Then cut those pieces in half so we end up with 4 sections
Now place them onto the nail, one on the top, one on the bottom and 2 on the side
Each piece only covering 1/3 of the nail leaving a square section uncovered in the middle
Grab your second color and apply it over the exposed areas
Once you remove the tapes, you'll end up with a 3 x 3 check design
If you make any mistakes, simply go over it with the same color to cover it up
Next use the medium sized dotting tool and add in the dots
With a 3 x 3 set, you can get a bit more creative with the shapes of your puzzle pieces. They don't all have to go in the same direction
the corner pieces only has 2 dots, the middle piece has 4 dots and the rest has 3
You can decide whether you want them in or out
you can only have 1 dot between 2 sides so Don't over do the dots
The next 2 designs have similar steps, and the difference between these ones are that they have a border around the puzzle pieces so it looks more defined
Start with a coat of black polish as your base color
Next cut up a few sections of a striping tape
For a 2 x 2 design, place them in the middle of the nail one horizontal and one vertical
Make sure you remember which one you placed first so you know what order to rip them off later
Depending on the shape and size of your nail you can do a 3 x 3 or a 2 x 3 design
The good thing about this striping tape method is that you can use more than 2 colors for your pieces
I decided to go with 4 colors by filling in each section with a different color
once you remove the tapes, it should look something like this
Clean up around the nail and wait for the polish to dry up a little before continuing
Grab the biggest dotting tool and place 4 black dots in each section
Then use the medium sized dotting tool and place a smaller dot within the black dots to extend the border of the puzzle pieces to include the connections
With the 2 x 3 design, you can use a smaller dotting tool since the areas are smaller
And that's it. Finish with top coat to protect your designs
