Hello and welcome to the Waterhouse Museum. This is a wonderful old house. Mr. Waterhouse
came down here with his son, and in 1883 he decided he would build a home here. Fortunately,
he was a carpenter and also a builder, so he was able to build his house. In 1884 he
was able to move into this house with his wife and his two children, Stella and Charles.
It's a wonderful house, and I think you will really enjoy it because he built many homes
here in Maitland, and he also built some things for their church. It was for all Presbyterians,
and he built the pews that when in the Presbyterian church. He used some wonderful wood. It's
called Heart Pine. And everything in this house is made with Heart Pine. What is that?
It is the middle part of--it's the heart of the pine. It's wonderful wood because termites
cannot get into it, and so most of the pioneers used all of this wood. Come and see this wonderful
home. It's in Maitland, Florida, and it is the Waterhouse Museum. We'd love to have you.
